Reasons for no posts…

March 3rd, 2010 by That Vulture

I’m currently working on other websites, thus there will be limited activity on thesevultures.net for a while. I’ll try to post some albums soon, but most of my time goes to one particular website + normal daily life.

Sorry!

Liner notes: Refused is presently Dennis, David, Jon & Kristofer. On the first demo it was Dennis, David, Pär & Jonas. The second one featured Dennis, David, Pär, Magnus & Henrik. Both were recorded at Hortlax hardcore studios by Pelle Gunne and mastered from shitty tapes by Eskil at Tonteknik.

Lay out by Jon and Dennis. Cut´n paste by Axel. All songs by Refused except # 8 by AC/DC # 19 by Mötley Crue and # 20 by Beastieboys.

Thanx to everyone who was there.

Contact: Dennis Lyxzén, Kuratorvägen 30nb, 90736 Umeå, Sweden. E-mail: refused@cabal.se. http://www.cabal.se/startrec/refused.

Obligatory informative rant: I guess who was there, what we did and where it went are all sentiments for another occasion. Some other medium, further down the line. It’s all very typical I’m afraid, “boys dead set on kicks thinking eachother great gathering on weekends screaming dancing staying up all night talking blasting knowing everything fearing nothing” kind of deal. And as far as alibis go I can’t say I have one, I was there, I took part, I did my time in the youth crew institute of old-school hardcore naivete, although, I admit, listening back to these tapes I can hardly believe that’s me playing. Then again, we really didn’t give a shit about being musicians, it was all about the scene.

REFUSED ARE FUCKING DEAD

Selvhat – Einsam In Ewigkeit (EP(2006)) Rapidshare

February 12th, 2010 by That Vulture

Selvhat was a one man band from Trondheim with Steingrim Torson behind it all. Unfortunately he was shot dead on the night to May 1st 2009. This was a great loss for the norwegian black metal scene, which you’ll understand when listening to this EP. Steingrim was also a member of several other bands like Celestial Bloodshed, Unbeing, Kaosritual and One Tail, One head – to name a few.

The EP you’ll get today is quite awesome. Depression, hate and misanthropy!

Woods of Infinity – Ljuset (2005) Rapidshare

February 4th, 2010 by That Vulture

Yeah, I can’t really see it either… but trust me, it’s the logo of the band “Woods of Infinity”..

They play black metal. However, I think the logo looks like some kind of grindcore bandlogo. Nevertheless…

Woods of Infinity hails from Umeå, Sweden. They formed in 1999, and have released a shitload of demos, ep’s, splits, participated on samplers, etc, like most modern blacker than black metal bands nowadays…  their lyrical concept includes murder, pedophilia, human feelings(?!) and nature. I’m sure they like to cuddle infront of the fireplace in the cabin in the woods with each their 6 year old. Or whatever.

Woods of Infinity – Ljuset

  • 1 Genever
  • 2 Ett förlorat barn
  • 3 Tankeväckande Självömkan
  • 4 Summon the Lord of Blasphemy
  • 5 A love story
  • 6 Tvåfaldig Vikt är en Styggelse för Herren

VON – Satanic Blood Angel (2002) Rapidshare

February 1st, 2010 by That Vulture

Von Logo

This is going to be as ugly and raw as you can imagine. VON formed in 1988/1989(sources differ), in San Francisco, California. They recorded two demos, Satanic Blood and Blood Angel. Satanic Blood was released in 1992, but Blood Angel was never to be released on it’s own. However, the album I’m posting today contains both demos and a live recording from San Francisco.

satanic blood angel cover

  • 12 Von – 02:58

Here’s a random quote of a review online:

The atmosphere Von create is most unique and haunting. There are rarely more than a couple of riffs in a song. The guitars create a very hypnotic, droning, and almost ritualistic feel. The vocals are pretty unique also, a deep, bellowing, bark that echoes, it is how I would imagine Satan to sound. Sometimes they use a clean chant/echo (listen to the song Veinen) which sounds very eerie, like a ghost. The drumming is pretty monotonous, but that is commonplace in black metal, it is nothing extrodinary, but I could not imagine any other style of drumming that would fit the music. The blast beats just constantly are pummeling you in the face. The tempo, which is usually a constant onslaught of blast beats and chainsaw guitars, rarely changes.

The lyrics are one of my favorite parts. Im sure most people will just see them as cheesy and overly evil, but to me they just seem very mysterious and cryptic (admittedly, some of the lyrics are goofy). The song names are equally mysterious, with name like “Veinen”, “Watain”, “Veadtuck”, it just adds to the mystique that surrounds Von. The lyrics sound like they are straight out of some sort of dark ritual much of the time, which fits the music perfectly. They are kept very simple, with the exception of a couple of tracks. Here is an excerpt from the song Devil Pig to give you an idea of what the lyrics are like, “Shine tusk/Blood horns/Pentagram brand/Red screen”.

You’ll find this ugly atrocity here.

Various Artists – Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone (1998) Rapidshare

Darkthrone Logo
THE black metal band, the one countless others imitate, the one countless others site as their main inspiration… Yes. Darkthrone! If it wasn’t for Darkthrone I doubt I’d ever find black metal. They set the bar for black metal with their epic trilogy from the 90s.

Darkthrone Photo

Scary guys indeed.

What’s more fitting that the most important bands of the norwegian black metal scene at the time(1998) records Darkthrone covers and release them as a kick ass tribute album? I have no idea. It’s just very fitting. I guess. Uh.

Abyssic Hate – Suicidal Emotions (2000) Rapidshare

January 30th, 2010 by That Vulture

Abyssic Hate Logo
Today’s band is Abyssic Hate, from Australia. Abyssic Hate is a one-man band, and the band was formed way back in 1993. Guy behind the band is Shane Rout, and he’s a total jackass, but thats not important. His music with Abyssic Hate is just amazing. The lyrical theme is, you guessed it, misanthropy, depression, suicide and, err, anti-christianity. And yeah, these themes is quite stereotypical these days..

Abyssic Hate Photo

Interesting trivia? The band’s name is taken from the Darkthrone song “In the shadow of the horns”. The guy on the famous cover of “Suicidal Emotions” is not Shane Rout himself, but norwegian Einar Andre Fredriksen of the doom metal band “Funeral”. He commited suicide 3 years later.

Speaking of the cover, let’s have a look…

Suicidal Emotions

01. Depression – Part 1
02. Betrayed
03. Depression – Part 2
04. Despondency

First released May 2000, by No Colours Records. You’ll probably notice the Burzum-worship on this album, and that’s okay. It’s not as good as Burzum, though.

Hopesfall – No Wings To Speak Of (EP(2001)) Rapidshare

January 29th, 2010 by That Vulture

hopesfall logo

Kinda different post today. Not just musically, but also for different reasons. I guess you realize that most of the music I post here is quite opposed to christianity. Not today’s band, they actually considered themselves to be a christian band, and worked with it  in their image, etc. I didn’t really care much for this, but this EP is pretty damn great. I’m NOT a fan of all these new genres, whatevercore, nothing-new-core, etc, and these guys haven’t really released anything really interesting since this EP, so I dunno…

Anyway, this is it:

No Wings To Speak Of Cover

02.  April Left With Silence
03. The End Of An Era

“Emotion. The word alone is subject to many meanings and connotations. To some it is a term used to describe everything from how they live their life to the music on their stereos written by androgynous teenagers. To others it is a sense of being. Something you feel when triggered at just the right moment and at just the right time. Something that is indescribable but yearns to be described. Something that when channeled, has the power to move you in just the right way that it becomes forever etched in who you are.Even though the album begins with a blast of dissonance, it is not long before you hear the signature spacey-ness that makes up much of Hopesfall’s sound. Reverb soaked leads spiderweb their way through even the heaviest of Doug Venable’s screams and provide an uplifting feeling of hope in the music. It is never complex or over the top, just simple leads and octaves, but delivered in just the right way to perfectly accent the rest of the instruments.

The cornerstone of the album is the third track, The End of an Era. The near seven minute long track begins with atmospheric guitar over building drums before it breaks into the violence of the verse. It soon subsides into an ocean of clean guitar and feedback before building slowly back to crescendo with clean vocals and octaves. This one track, to me at least, defines not only Hopesfall, but is the crowning achievement of the Melodic Metalcore scene.

No Wings To Speak Of is more than just a starting point for one of the Hardcore (and eventually Post-Hardcore) Scene’s most innovative bands, it is a recording that defines a genre. No Wings to Speak Of is a recording so full of emotion and power that embeds itself deep in your heart and becomes a part of you.”

Can’t really say I agree 100% with this above, but it is a GREAT EP. You can find it here!

Mayhem – Live in Leipzig (1993) Rapidshare

January 27th, 2010 by That Vulture

Mayhem Logo

Mayhem.  Yeah. I don’t really have to say much here I feel.

The album I’m posting here is quite legendary. No, it’s not “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, although that’s a damn good album. Actually, the album I’m posting is the live album from 1993. “Live in Leipzig”.

Mayhem Band Photo
This is Mayhem, in the olden days. Good times. Or not.

Anyhoo, the album…

Mayhem Live In Leipzig Cover

03. Funeral Fog
04. The Freezing Moon
05. Carnage
06. Buried By Time And Dust
07. Pagan Fears
08. Chainsaw Gutsfuck
09. Pure Fucking Armageddon

Legendary, yet roughly produced live album. The gig featured heavy atmospheric effects such as severed pig heads impaled on wooden spikes. The band’s clothes were decayed and soiled. Pieces of rotting meat were thrown into the audience and given to people. Dead Ravens were placed in bags so band members could continually smell decay and death. Dead also was noted on slicing himself open during the show. The band arrived in Leipzig with all instruments by train.

Devil Doll – Dies Irae (1996(1999)) Rapidshare

January 26th, 2010 by That Vulture

Last post with Devil Doll, and what a fine post it is.

Devil Doll Dies Irae Cover
Devil Doll – Dies Irae (1996(1999))

01 – 18. Part 1-18
19. Hidden Track

Dies Irae is the sixth studio album by the rock band Devil Doll, released on February 1996. A concept by Mr. Doctor, is inspired by the life and music of George Harvey Bone, the poems of Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Brontë, Emily Dickinson and Isidore Ducasse. The lyrics contains multiple references to the poem The Conqueror Worm by E.A. Poe (with the entire final stanza of the poem reproduced almost verbatim). The sample used at the beginning “Part 12″ is from the film The Night Of The Hunter, and is the character, “Pearl Harper” (played by Sally Jane Bruce) singing.Part 18 (the final track) ends after two minutes, followed by total silence before a two minute hidden track, sometimes reffered to as Part 19.

I hope you enjoy Devil Doll as much as I do. Get Dies Irae here!

Slogstorm – Smidd Av Kulde (Demo(2006)) Rapidshare

January 25th, 2010 by That Vulture

Slogstorm Logo

These guys hail from Alta/Lakselv, in the top north of norway. I studied at college with some of these guys, and they’re a cool bunch. They formed in 2003, and have released several demos. The one I’m posting here was released in 2006.

Slogstorm Photo, old two of these members have been replaced.

The genre they’re playing is brutal death metal. I’m no connoiseur when it comes to this genre, but I’m reminded about Morbid Angel, Deicide and such.

Slogstorm Live

Their lyrical theme is the mythology up here in northern norway. For instance the creature called “draugen”.

Sjøtrollet, by Kittelsen

Yeah. He’s a cutie. You can read more about this creature from our mythology here.

Well, it’s the music you’re here for, I’m guessing, so here it comes:

05. Lempa På Havet
06. Coldforged(“Smidd av kulde” translates to this)

I hope you enjoy this demo, I think it’s pretty awesome. You can get it here!

Also, I’ve added two live videos with these guys on the videopage. Same track, twice. One recording done in 2006, and one recording done in 2009.

Gallhammer – Gloomy Lights (2004) Rapidshare

January 23rd, 2010 by That Vulture

The album I’m posting here comes from a band named Gallhammer. It’s a japanese blackish doomish metal band with all girl members. Yes, a extreme metal band consisting only of japanese girls.

What do you think about when I say “japanese girls” …?

Japanese stereotypical schoolgirls
You think this, right?

Gallhammer doesn’t exactly have this image, see for yourself:

Gallhammer Band Photo

Yeah, I know, I just played along with the gimmick their recordlabel is using with big success. “WAT?! ALL WAPANESE ALL GIRL EXTREME METAL BAND?!”… Interesting this, but, well, they’re so much more than this gimmick.

The band was formed in Tokyo in 2003.  According to various sources they wanted to create a band in the vein of Hellhammer, and they succeeded I guess. Their music is ugly, minimalistic and simple. Vivian Slaughter in the band cites several bands as influence. Among these she lists Hellhammer, ofcourse, but also Celtic Frost(duh.), Burzum, Amebix, Cathedral, Kraftwerk, Morbid Angel, etc. So the music is a sickening mix of black metal, death metal, crust, doom and so forth. The album posted here is quite unsettling to listen to, but this is kind of what makes it so interesting.

02. Crucifixion
03. Tomurai: May Our Father Die
04. Beyond The Hate Red
05. Lost Myself
06. State Of Gloom
07. Aloof And Proud Silence
08. Color Of Coma

“I can say that raw feelings make a good sound. Because we are not machine. We could shed blood, could vomit and have feeling of hate. … I wanted to express the mental instability and mental cruelty which a girl has. Now we are holding up pride, hate and life in the front. We are not wearing that dress.” – Vivian Slaughter

Japan has more good stuff to offer, and I’ll most likely post some here sooner or later. Get this album here.

Devil Doll – Eliogabalus (1990) Rapidshare

January 22nd, 2010 by That Vulture

I hope you enjoyed Devil Doll – The Girl Who Was … Death, because I was thinking I’d give you some more weirdness from Devil Doll again.

Devil Doll Eliogabalus Cover
Devil Doll – Eliogabalus (1990)

01. Mr. Doctor
02. Eliogabalus

In 1989, Mr. Doctor began the work on two compositions, The Black Holes of My Mind, a 45 minute composition incorporating esoteric quotations and subliminal messages; and Eliogabalus, a 60 minute composition inspired by Antonin Artaud’s book “Heliogabalus: Or, The Crowned Anarchist”.

In December Devil Doll entered Tivoli Studios with Jurij Toni to record a new album. Hurdy Gurdy’s budget limitations forced Mr. Doctor to cut down the two former compositions, in order to include both on a single vinyl release.

Only the Italian section, and the Slovenian guitarist Bor Zuljan, was used to record the album.

Eliogabalus was released in 1990, the shortened version of The Black Holes of My Mind was renamed “Mr. Doctor” for this release, while “Eliogabalus” retained its name.

Well, you can get the album here. Prepare for more Devil Doll soon!

Mütiilation – Vampires Of Black Imperial Blood, Rapidshare

January 21st, 2010 by That Vulture

Time to bring out the ugly.

Mütiilation Logo

That’s right.

Mütiilation Photo

Say hello to Meyhna’ch of Mütiilation.

Mütiilation is a band that formed in 1991 in Grabels, France. Who’d imagine that some french guys could create something as ugly and fucked up as this? The album I’m posting here was released in 1995, which was their and “the black legions” first full lenght album, and according to some started the entire depressive/suicidal black metal trend. I dunno, Mütiilation is pretty far from Shining and such. Raw, fucked up, and I’m guessing, ready to die. Oh, and from 1996, or whatever, Meyhna’ch has been alone in the band.

Mütiilation - Vampires Of Black Imperial Blood Covers

Mütiilation – Vampires Of Black Imperial Blood

01. Magical Shadows Of A Tragic Past
02. Born Under The Master’s Spell
03. Ravens Of My Funeral
04. Black Imperial Blood
05. Eternal Empire Of Majesty Death
06. Transylvania
07. Under Ardailles Night
08. Tears Of A Melancholic Vampire

This album, together with March to the Black Holocaust, was instrumental in establishing the reputation of the Black Legions among underground black metal circles. The overall reception of the album was highly polarized with some dismissing it as “forgettable melancholic drivel”. Globally, the most notable elements appear to be the “twisted”, “demented but catchy riffs” and, most importantly, the “melancholic”, “bleak and lugubrious”, “depressive atmosphere”, that differed from the established Norvegian black metal acts of that time. On the base of this album, Mütiilation is often credited for inventing the “depressive/suicidal black metal” sub-genre, that would spawn acts such as Xasthur and Shining. However, unlike groups the album influenced, “Vampires…” shows a wider range of dynamics and an unmistakable style of songwriting, especially for that era of the genre.

While the production quality has been acclaimed as “significantly clearer” than on earlier Mütiilation demos, other reviewers described it as a “nonexistent production”, or even an “ultra primitive sound quality (…) making Darkthrone sound downright hi-fi”.

Now, this album is raw, it’s sounds ugly, and it’s fantastic. You can download it here.

Obtained Enslavement – The Sheperd And The Hounds Of Hell, Rapidshare

January 21st, 2010 by That Vulture

Obtained Enslavement Logo

This sure looks like a black metal logo to me. With not being decipherable at all, I mean. However, Obtained Enslavement hails from Stord, on the west coast of Norway. They split up in 2000, but just managed to release this gem of an album. This album is supposed to be “symphonic black metal”, although it doesn’t really remind me about the stereotypical bands in this genre. Which is a good thing.

The Sheperd And The Hounds Of Hell Cover

Devil Doll – The Girl Who Was … Death, Rapidshare

January 20th, 2010 by That Vulture

The fourth album I’ll post here is quite something…

Devil Doll Logo

So, what’s this?

Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is Mr. Doctors brainchild. He had a very strange band called Devil Doll, and in 1989 this project released an album titled “The Girl Who Was … Death”:

The Girl Who Was ... Death Cover

Devil Doll – The Girl Who Was … Death

01. The Girl Who Was … Death

This album is in my mind quite extraordinary. Experimental and artsy, symphonic and progressive. Lot’s of metal influences, yet so much more than “metal”.  The vocals are out of this world. Everything here is composed by Mr. Doctor, which goes to prove what a musical genius this man must be. I’m in AWE.

You can, ofcourse, download the entire album here. You will enjoy this, I promise!

Master’s Hammer – Šlágry, Rapidshare

January 20th, 2010 by That Vulture

Yeah, no sleep results in more music…

Time for album #3 from these weirdos in the east:

Šlágry Cover

Master’s Hammer – Šlágry

1. Šavlový Tanec
2. Ach, Synku, Synku
3. Pùjdem Spolu Do Betléma
4. Indiánská Píseò Hrùzy
5. Carl Czerny Op. 849
6. Rock’n'Roll Music (Chuck Berry Cover)
7. Vzpomínám Na Zlaté Casy
8. Nabucco
9. Hlava Modernistova

A goodbye album, featuring music very unlike the rest of the discography, and only 2 of the members. Most of the tracks are very odd-fashioned covers.

Yeah, well, not really. In 2009 they joined forces again, and they’ve released a new album titled Mantras. I won’t be posting any links for this here.

However, Šlágry you can get here!

No sleep makes work in 3 hours hard. BAAAWWWW.

Master’s Hammer – The Jilemnice Occultist, Rapidshare

January 20th, 2010 by That Vulture

Well, it’s a pretty awesome band, so here is album #2 from these guys:

The Jilemnice Occultist Cover

Master’s Hammer – The Jilemnice Occultist

1. Overture
2. Mezi kopci cesta je klikatá…
3. Já nechci mnoho trápiti…
4. Kol prostírá se temný les…
5. Ten dvanácterák zmizel v houští…
6. Můj hejtmane…
7. Já mizérií osudu jsem pronásledován
8. Ach pane vzácný…
9. Že vše je podle mého přání…
10. Sláva, sláva, pane hejtmane
11. Suchardův dům (v Nové Pace)

The album, sans the last track, reads like a narrative play, telling the tale of Atrament, an occultist and student in Jilemnice, and his plight with Poebeldorf, a false captain masquerading as Satrapold, who jails Atrament and attempts to serenade Calamaria, a fellow occultist and the daughter of Spiritus, owner of the local pub. Calamaria discovers Poebeldorf’s true identity, and he is put in prison once Satrapold, the true captain of Jilemnice, arrives. The final track is somewhat of a bonus and is an inscription on a stone outside of a house that reads somewhat like an epitaph.

ANYWAY, get it here!
