THE black metal band, the one countless others imitate, the one countless others site as their main inspiration… Yes. Darkthrone! If it wasn’t for Darkthrone I doubt I’d ever find black metal. They set the bar for black metal with their epic trilogy from the 90s.

What’s more fitting that the most important bands of the norwegian black metal scene at the time(1998) records Darkthrone covers and release them as a kick ass tribute album? I have no idea. It’s just very fitting. I guess. Uh.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of these high priests of Norwegian dark metal’s unholy reign on the nether regions of the planet, the Moonfog Records label summoned up eight dark metal bands from Norway deemed worthy of paying musical homage to their mentors & cast upon them the rite of covering their favorite cut by Darkthrone. The victors of this challenge, Thorns, Dodsheimsgard, Gehenna, Gorgoroth, Enslaved, Satyricon, Emperor & Immortal, each offer unto the listener one track of sonic sacrifice.
